What it does
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI models connect to outside tools and data. An MCP server is one of those connectors: install it and Claude gets a new tool, like access to a database, a browser or an app's API.
This repo is a curated list of MCP servers, grouped into categories such as Browser Automation, Databases, Developer Tools, Communication and Cloud Platforms. It is a directory, not something you install.
How to use it
- Open the repo and scroll to Server Implementations, or use your browser's find (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) to search for the app you care about.
- Check the icons next to each entry. A medal means an official implementation; the cloud icon means it talks to an online service; the house icon means it runs against software on your own computer; the apple, window and penguin icons show macOS, Windows and Linux support.
- Click through to the server's own GitHub page and follow its README to install it in Claude.
- Prefer browsing a website? The list is synced with the web directory at glama.ai/mcp/servers.
Tip from the list
- Want Claude to explain MCP itself? Create a Project in Claude and add the file https://modelcontextprotocol.io/llms-full.txt to it.
- Claude can then answer questions about how MCP servers work and how to write one.
Good to know
This list covers servers you install and run yourself. For hosted servers you connect to with just a URL, the README points to a separate list, awesome-remote-mcp-servers. Many entries are not official implementations, so read each server's own README before you install it.
