agentmemory

A local memory server that records your coding sessions so Claude Code and other agents can recall past work instead of you re-explaining it.

What it does

agentmemory runs a small memory server on your computer. It captures what happens in your coding sessions and lets your agent search that history later, so it remembers past decisions and fixes.

The Claude Code plugin adds automatic hooks, 17 skills and 54 MCP tools (an MCP server is a connector that gives Claude new tools). It also works with Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI and others. A live viewer shows the memory as it builds.

Install it

  1. Check you have Node.js 20 or newer.
  2. In a separate terminal window, run the first command below. The first run walks you through setup: pick your agents and an AI provider, or stay keyless. Leave this window running.
  3. Open Claude Code and run the two plugin commands in the second block.
  4. Check it is working by opening http://localhost:3111/agentmemory/health in your browser.

Start the memory server

Terminal
npx -y @agentmemory/agentmemory@latest

Add the plugin in Claude Code

Claude Code
/plugin marketplace add rohitg00/agentmemory
/plugin install agentmemory

Use it

  1. Work in Claude Code as normal. Sessions are captured automatically.
  2. Open http://localhost:3113 to watch the memory build live and replay past sessions.
  3. To try it with sample data first, run npx -y @agentmemory/agentmemory@latest demo in another terminal.
  4. Day to day, type agentmemory to start the server and agentmemory stop to stop it.

Good to know

Keyless mode works but uses keyword search only. For free on-device meaning-based search, set EMBEDDING_PROVIDER=local in ~/.agentmemory/.env and restart.

On Windows, the easiest path is WSL2. Native Windows needs a manual download of the iii engine (v0.22.1), and Docker Desktop is also supported. The README has step-by-step Windows notes. agentmemory doctor runs diagnostics and agentmemory remove uninstalls everything it created.
