What it does
Coucou puts a little character named Mochi in your Mac's notch (or a small bar at the top of the screen on Macs without one). It shows your Claude Code sessions live: what files it reads, edits and runs.
When Claude Code asks for permission, you can click Allow, Deny or Always right in the notch. It also works with Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI and other agents, and an iPhone app (in beta) lets you approve requests from your Lock Screen.
Install it
- Download the latest Coucou.zip from the Releases page.
- Unzip it and move Coucou.app to your Applications folder.
- Launch it and click Open when macOS asks you to confirm.
- Click the Coucou icon in the menu bar, open Settings, and click Install hooks for Claude Code. It backs up ~/.claude/settings.json and shows you the change before writing anything.
Use it
- Start a Claude Code session. Mochi pops out of the notch and shows each step.
- When a permission request appears, click Allow, Deny or Always.
- Want to see it first? Open Settings, then General, then Demo, and click Try demo mode. No API key or Claude Code needed.
- Drop a file on the notch to ask a question about it. Chat needs an Anthropic API key, added in Settings.
Good to know
No telemetry and no account. Keys are stored in your system keychain. The Windows installer is temporarily unavailable while a false malware flag is reviewed, so Windows users must build from source. A Linux beta (x86_64) is on the Releases page.
The code is MIT licensed, but the Coucou name, Mochi and the sounds belong to the author.
