What it does

Duix Avatar is a free, open-source tool for making digital-human videos. It can clone your appearance and voice, then drive a virtual avatar with text or audio, with lip-syncing across eight languages.

It runs fully offline on your own machine, so your data stays local. It is a heavy desktop/server tool, not a cloud app: it needs an NVIDIA GPU and a lot of disk space.

Install it

  1. Check the hardware: an NVIDIA GPU with current drivers, 32GB RAM, and plenty of free disk (100GB+ on Windows, 100GB+ on Ubuntu).
  2. Install Docker and Node.js 18, then pull the three Docker images the README lists (fun-asr, fish-speech-ziming, duix.avatar).
  3. Start the server from the repo's /deploy folder with the Docker Compose command below. The first download is large (about 70GB) and can take around half an hour.
  4. Download the official client installer for your system from the Releases page and run it.

Start the server

Terminal
cd /deploy
docker-compose up -d
# lighter version:
# docker-compose -f docker-compose-lite.yml up -d

Use it

  1. Open the client app once the Docker services are running.
  2. Create or import an avatar model, then type a script or supply audio to generate a video.
  3. The project also exposes local APIs after Docker starts (see src/main/service in the repo).

Good to know

This is Windows-first (Windows 10 build 19042.1526 or higher); Ubuntu 22.04 is also tested. The README says it supports global free commercial use, but enterprises with more than 100,000 users or over 10 million USD annual revenue need to sign a commercial license agreement. Check the repo's LICENSE file for the exact terms.

Cloning a real person's face or voice without their consent can be illegal and harmful, so only clone yourself or someone who has agreed.
